Biblios is built on the work of translators and scholars who released it for everyone to use. Here is what we use and where it came from.

Scripture text

The English Scripture text throughout Biblios is the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), produced in cooperation with Bible Hub, Discovery Bible, OpenBible.com, and the Berean Bible Translation Committee.

The BSB was placed into the public domain on April 30, 2023. No licence or permission is required to use it, and none of the credit on this page is legally demanded of us — we give it because the committee asks for it and because their work deserves naming.

Hebrew and Greek lexicons

Original-language word data, glosses, and morphology come from STEP Bible, created by Tyndale House, Cambridge, and published as STEPBible-Data. This material is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).

Changes we made. CC BY 4.0 asks that modifications be indicated, so:

  • The source HTML markup was normalized to plain text.
  • Entries were reindexed into a compact lookup keyed by Strong’s number for server-side reading.
  • The extended Meaning column of the Hebrew file (TBESH) is deliberately excluded. Its header notes that the column derives from Online Bible’s abridged BDB and asks projects to seek permission before reusing it, so we import only the Tyndale-created gloss and morphology.

If you reuse this lexicon data from Biblios, CC BY 4.0 travels with it — you must carry the same attribution and licence notice.

Other reference material

Additional lexical material used in the word study tools, including Thayer’s Greek Lexicon and Strong’s numbering, is in the public domain.

A note of thanks

Every text above was given away by the people who made it. Biblios exists because translators, lexicographers, and volunteers chose to release decades of work for anyone to build on. We are grateful for it.
