Cookie Policy
Biblios uses necessary storage for the app and optional PostHog analytics only after you consent. We never use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

If you are just reading
Browsing and reading Biblios signed out sets one strictly necessary, random browser identifier. It is used only to give each browser a fair AI rate-limit allowance and does not identify you across websites. Optional analytics remain disabled unless you accept them below.
Cookies we set
| Cookie | Set when | Purpose | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| ph_<project>_posthog and related PostHog storage | Only after you accept analytics | Keeps a pseudonymous analytics identity and session so we can measure product usage and search usefulness | Optional analytics |
| biblios_cid | On your first page visit | A random, pseudonymous browser identifier used only for abuse-prevention rate limits | Strictly necessary |
| sb-<project>-auth-token (and related Supabase auth cookies) | Only after you sign in with Google | Keeps you signed in between page loads and refreshes your session. Without it you would be signed out on every navigation | Strictly necessary |
Supabase sets authentication cookies on our behalf. PostHog analytics storage is created only after consent. The rate-limit identifier lasts up to one year; authentication-cookie expiry follows the session configuration and signing out clears the session.
Your analytics choice
Under the EU/UK ePrivacy rules and the GDPR, consent is required for cookies and similar storage that are not strictly necessary to deliver a service the user has asked for. Analytics, advertising, and tracking cookies all require consent. Cookies that only keep an authenticated user signed in do not.
Biblios asks before enabling PostHog analytics or session replay and provides an equally available decline option. You can change that choice here at any time. Declining does not limit any reading or study feature.
Current choice: not chosen
When accepted, PostHog receives product events and the phrases submitted through the home search engine. Search phrases are normalized and limited to 200 characters. Notes, guided study answers, email addresses, and typed form values are excluded. Session replay masks every visible word and input value.
Data stored on your device (not cookies)
Biblios uses your browser’s local storage to remember the work and preferences listed below on your own device. This app data is not transmitted to us, and we cannot read it. Optional PostHog storage is described separately above.
| Key | What it holds |
|---|---|
| bibleReaderState | Your place in the reader — book, chapter, and view settings |
| bibleStudyNotes | Notes you have written while signed out |
| collectedVerses | Verses you have gathered for study |
| study, studyQuestions | Your in-progress study work and questions |
| readerInteractionMode, wordTapEnabled | Reader preferences, such as tap-to-define |
| biblios_tutorial | Whether you have already seen the introductory walkthrough |
You can clear all of it at any time through your browser’s “clear site data” setting. Doing so permanently deletes any signed-out work, because we hold no copy of it.
Third-party cookies
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies and embed no third-party content that would set them. Specifically:
- Fonts are self-hosted and served from our own domain, so your browser makes no request to Google Fonts.
- There are no embedded videos, social widgets, comment systems, maps, or chat widgets anywhere in the app.
- Stripe sets its own cookies, but only on Stripe’s own checkout page after you choose to donate, and under Stripe’s policies. Those cookies are necessary for payment processing and fraud prevention.
- Google may set cookies on its own sign-in page if you choose to sign in with Google. That happens on Google’s domain, under Google’s policies.
Managing cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking our authentication cookies means you will not be able to stay signed in — but every reading and study feature will still work signed out.
